Irish Air Corps / Re: Baldonnel Runway "Vandalised"
« on: May 13, 2011, 02:03:40 pm »
Yes it was lightning !!
It hit the grass next to the runway, went under the tarmac, spread out like a web and burst back up through the runway!
And no it wasn't vandals.

Well if it is a pimped up BlackHawk then the tail and stealthy bits would be bolt on parts over the original skeleton and internal structures. You can see the tail rotor drive shaft in some of the photos. This more than likely runs along the same route as the parent machine whereas a NOTAR design would require a complete redesign of the tail section taking a long time (simulations, test flights etc) and money to develop.
Plus , we don't know how long these stealth helis have been operative . Afterall the Blackhawk and stealth technology have been around for the best part of 25 years as far as we know!

Well the hub cap on the tail rotor was almost certainly borrowed from the Commanche main rotor head.  :stirthepot:

Don't know about everyone else but this don't look like a bit of BlackHawk to me!!!!
Is it a piece of false evidence or did the U.S loose a piece of 'Secret' new kit in the raid to get Bin Laden.......

Aviation News / Re: Non slip paint - clue to Harrier return?
« on: April 30, 2011, 05:16:35 am »
Well a guy I know on a UK forum has a mate who was a RN Harrier techie and some of them have been asked to reform at Culdrose (apparently?) and the rumour is a small Navy Harrier force will be stood back up with the Harriers being based there (Culdrose).
Also circulating is that one Tornado Sqn be saved but one has just gone and the other that is
under the axe is due to disband on May 5th!!
Ah the Internet....!

Would love to see the Harrier fly again though!!
