Hey Papa 242, when we do an engine change and I straddle the pylon with an RB211 underneath my buttocks I imagine a pair of handlebars sticking up out of the nose cowl!
Good to hear that Bobby is still around, can you remember me to him if you see him again? He had the balance between upcamp and downcamp just right. It just goes to show how good he was at his job-how many RSMs have they got in Baldonnel now- Bobby used to do all of their work! He still puts the fear of God into me!

Hey Papa 242, I was in front of you in that A111 flight! I've got a photo of that flight taken from the taxiway as we flew over the camerman. It was very hard for the pilots to keep in formation that far back, I can't remember who my pilot was but I do remember how we climbed and dived to keep formation!
I sent you an email last night.
Best wishes, JK

Irish Air Corps / selling dauphin's a mistake?

"pilots are going to find them selves carrying out more desk duties"

Pink Panther, there's a worrying thought! They'll be chewing off the techies for stupid, petty things! "Why are you wearing your ramp jacket down to the canteen?" It's dangerous letting pilots do nothing, there's only so many desk duties before they feel they have to assert their authority!
Incidentaly are you involved in Heli Wing? With a name like Pink Panther I assume you are, as only donners know what this means!

Didn't the US army ask the same question in Vietnam?

Welcome Warthog, you've put forward some very good points there, I go along with them. Have the US Coastguard got any plans to get rid of their Dauphins yet and they're older than the Air Corps ones.

Hey Dinger, yeah I'm still with BA. I'm an A4 Tech. On 747 minor maintenance-permanent night shift! I went to 747 major maintenance when BA sold the Engine shop to GE. I went down to Nantgarw for 6 months to show the Taffies how to overhaul RB211s, that was back in '92. Since then I've seen nearly all the major maintenance move away from Heathrow. Big Frank M. left the BA Engine shop around that time and joined GE based at Heathrow, I still meet him now and then, he's doing well-married with 4 kids.
Otherwise there's a couple of ex Donners around BA that I meet occasionally. How's the Maggot? does he still work with you at Airmotive?

Good to see you're still with us Dinger! What're you up to? I remember the surprise when I bumped into you at British Airways' Heathrow Engine Shop! Are you still involved with Engines?

Irish Air Corps / Prints and Calendars
« on: January 11, 2006, 06:05:51 pm »
Hi Frank, many thanks for the calendar and prints, they arrived today. Excellent service as I only put in the order at the weekend! It was good looking through the photos on the calendar. It really must be 'Dead mans shoes' in Photo Section (we used to call it Porno Section!) I noticed that Tony Flanagan is still a Corporal! I did my NCO course with him in 1980! Most of the lads still in the 'Don from that course are now Flt.Sgts or RSMs. He's a top bloke though, so's Willy Barr but I'm still waiting for a selection of photos from my time in the 'Don he said he'd get for me! (in case he's reading this!)

Great photos, sniper. at our ATC Sqn, we've had 6 Cadets leave recently and gone into the forces, nothing as lucrative as a 'Loady' though. One lad has gone in to the Army to train as an Apache technician, hopefully he'll be able to arrange for one of them to visit us!

Air Corps Careers / Air Corp Recruit's?

Anyone know if Sully got an apprenticeship? I wasn't any good at maths but got through the exams in the hostel. You don't think it's of any use at the time but now when I've got a repair to do and the edge margin is 2d x 3/16th with an edge radius of 1/2 inch, etc. ( I get someone else to do it! )
