Your welcome, feel free to ask if you have any other questions on the S92A, I'd be quite happy to answer.

We have of course done this and other winter trips thousands of times, but, there are times when low level icing conditions in IMC flight prevented us from doing those type of missions as the S61N had very limited Anti Ice protection and no De-Ice protection. The S92A has full anti-ice and de-ice systems including RIPs (Rotor Icing Protection Systems)both on main and tail rotors, full air intake protection and of course pitot systems.

So in fact we have done the round the coast trips in winter (Not too many)but we also flew direct, mostly :ireland:.

Hi Folks,

I keep an eye on the forum pages and it is noticeable that there is a severe lack of movement on the Air Corps Apprentice page. even the old reliable's like Mick Nugent, Dinger Dwyer, John Keeley are gone quiet. Would love to hear small snippets of info from any ex. Don Apprentice. So lads why don't we revitalise ourselves and start talking again. Best regards to all. Mick Treacy 1974-76.

Currently working with CHC Ireland with Irish Coast Guard SAR Helicopters.

"way off thread" :chillpill: If referring to the fact that the Air Corps Casa conducted a very important Top Cover mission for a Rescue Operation of our coast is not related to "value for money" which is the title of the thread by the way, then how else will people judge value for money of the Air Corps but only by seeing/reading of the missions undertaken by the Air Corps in aid to those in distress of our coast. So careful now that you don't fall of your high and mighty horse while your at it.

Just a note from the Sligo based Coast Guard Heli Rescue 118 (Crewed by mostly Ex. Donners). Conducted a SAR mission from a Russian Factory vessel 130NM off Eagle Island, Mayo tonight. Great job by Charlie 253 in doing Top Cover for us...great sense of security and reassurance for the SAR Heli crew. Successfully completed the lift and routed to Sligo Airport with casualty. Charlie 253 continued to maintain cover for us until we regained radio comms with Marine Rescue Co-Ordination Centre. A big well done and and thanks from the crew of Rescue 118 to the Maritime Patrol Aircraft crews...thanks a bundle :applause:

Just completed a SAR mission 130NM west of Eagle Island Co. Mayo tonight and may I say what a great sense of relief to know that Charlie 253 was over us for the duration of the mission, many thanks to the lads of the Maritime Patrol Aircraft for the great sense of security afforded to us on our SAR missions.

Best Regards and thanks a million :applause: from the crew of Rescue 118 from Sligo

Cant help but notice some misguided statements especially the reference to the fact that "not much civvies operate at night"...what do you think the S61s have been doing since 1991, they are most certainly not night time Hangar Queens, and have chalked up hundreds of SAR/Medevac missions at night, without NVGs and were in the main, not Airport to Airport/Illuminated Helipad. Maybe you are not around long enough.

Good on yis lads, great to see the hard pressed taxpayers money being put to positive use. But be careful of overdoing of the self glorification bit, we all have jobs, but we don't always make a gangster movie out of doing it. Well done all of yis, and keep up the good work.

Hi Mick,

Sorry to hear of Johnny, i'm quite taken aback at the news. When we were apprentices I used to go to Thurles on many weekends and got to know his family very well back then. I'm with the private company (CHC) up in Sligo at the moment...dont mention the war!!!

I would love to meet up with you sometime, and say hello, maybe I'll drop into the "Don" oneday and say hello to you.

Regards

Mick
