I had many memories, but one that stuck out was on the rescue of the "Ard Cranna" 77 NM west of eagle Island Mayo. A certain gentleman pilot insisted I deploy smoke....I stated that we had no F....ng time for this as we were so far out and also the smoke was not of the floatable type, but this cravated "current Aer Lingus" pilot insisted anyway. My patter was...Pin out...smoke deployed...smoke sunk...what next?. Any we got our man and routed back to castlebar. Wouldnt trade those days in though. ':p'

Irish Air Corps / RAF/Air Corps mission

Good Man P.Doff, ya got it wrong from the start. Firstly he is Sweedish and not Swiss. I would not like to embarrass you with the "revellers" stats. for New Years Eve/Day. Were you aware of what was actually going on in the real world of rescue that night and day or have you just got the blinkered view. Did it occur to you that a light Aircraft had issued a May Day at the same time that the Mountain Rescue teams were requesting Heli assistance and an ICG Heli tailed him until safe on land, and bearing in mind that the ICG heli was operational all day in Kerry, and a search was underway off Kinsale to boot. Will I keep going P.Doff. There is no, and I stress NO, time off in Civil SAR it's a 24/7 operation, so there was no revelling for the DUTY crews that night or any other night for that matter. Come and join real SAR P.Doff and you might then remove your tunnelled view of what SAR is all about.
Its nice though to see the IAC involved in operations with civil agencies, and long may it live.

Hi Again Frank,
Just sussed out what Max Decals is doing, no need to alert re reg of 257, I see waht is on the Decal sheets are options rather than the definite reg. Sorry.

Hi Frank,

Cant help noticing that in Max Decals there is an error in the "Civvy Reg" of the Sikorski S61 Air Corps Reg 257. The reg shown is EI-MES which is the reg of the Dublin Based S61, it should read EI-CXS. May be it should be brought to Joe Maxwell's attention the maker of Max Decals.

Irish Air Corps / What aircraft would you like to see in AC service?
« on: December 10, 2004, 12:06:04 pm »
The former IAC Sk 61 257 which was on the "military Reg" has just been re-certified by IAA and now back on the civvy reg EI-CXS flying SAR from Sligo, both mother and baby are doing fine. '<img'>

Hi Boys,
Good to see the banter going. One of my own boys at home has just joined Her Majestys Armed Forces. Now I know why I did not reccomend the Air Corps to him.......Wollie teaching apprentices...now I wonder did that have anything to do with that decision. Shame I did not know you were coming over Johnny Brit would of took you for a flight in the Coastguard S61, real SAR heli. Sorry to hear of PONs illness, shame it always happens to the nice guys. Ill be in the Don myself on Mon 15th Nov, might catch one ro two of you then. Bye for now.

Irish Air Corps / Air Corps SAR
« on: October 19, 2004, 08:25:02 pm »
The SK 61 at Sligo has just carried out it's first SAR op. under the new CHC operation today. So SAR is alive and well in Sligo but not under IAC. We must move onward from from here and see that the long term future in SAR in Europe is going Civil.

Irish Air Corps / Let's talk about the navy again!

Good points raised folks, and yes once again the ugly head raises itself about wether or not we should have ships with Helis onboard or not. Murphys law will dictate that where there is a serious incident the Heli Equiped ship will be somewhere else a large distance away. Regarding the Canadian Sub incident I can tell you from first hand knowledge there was no interest in using "Any" Irish Rescue asset last tuesday when this incident occured, it was a British and Canadian Military operation and it was to stay that way.
This Island is currently well resourced with rescue assets and if there "not required" as was the case last tuesday then all the shipbourne helis that we might ever dream of having may be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. Roll on the day that we do have a well equiped military system.

Irish Air Corps / Naval Heli Ops in Ireland -
« on: June 22, 2004, 06:48:02 pm »
Lads as a former member of "Naval Squadron" with our two dedicated Naval retro fitted Dauphins, Delta 244 and 245, The crews who operated on the P31 had not an ounce of interest in being on board any Naval Vessel on any seaboard let alone the West Coast, try it! The operation was a failure from the onset and if Sailors want to fly then let them set up their own Naval Air Sqdn. Trust me lads it was not a nice place to be in the weather that we get off our western/south western coasts. I was glad to see the back of it all.

I think your right lads Prime muppett "Fianna Fail" should be totaly ignored, Maybe he's looking for a job in the "Free World" accross the pond, and does not want to rock the boat for himself. I think FF you need a reality check and get this "Free World" muck out of your system. The people who are prisoners in their own homes in the Clare/Shannon reigion might give you a good send off when you depart for Bush Land. ''

I think Mr Bush and his cohorts should not be welcomed here, stop wasting our hard earned tax payers money on this fool. Post all you like on him. Just go and talk to our "Irish Prisioners" in their own homes in the Quin, Newmarket, Ennis areas and surrounds whose basic civil liberties have been severely interfered with by the guardians of this state on behalf of the Worlds No 1 Terrorist. Talk all ye like lads, but try live down there right now and you will know what I'm talking about. ''
