Over in IMO, Turkey mentions two RN Merlins visited Bal last week, anyone know what for and have good pictures of them? 'pilot_laugh'

It could a been a 'Temple Bar survival course' trip alright, but I don't know.
The RN have done joint ex's with the Irish Air Corps, but i think these have been SAR based.
Any way I don't know if this will work or not

The Royal Navy use the Merlin for ASW, and these two certainly look like two of those particular models.

it could have been search and rescue related as they are also equipped with winches!also i doubt they were over here for any ASW ops!where they seen in formation or flying with any of our craft?

They also have a heavy lift capability and are used in that role frequently, OMG what a beast of a machine they are the dogs danglies! 'pilot_laugh'

the merlin hc1 has a heavy lift transport capability but the navy hm1s are not used as such in transporting anything other than the odd load of marines or sailors or stuff like that.it is an amazing heli i would rather it won the contract for medium lift heli and that the contract wasnt cancelled.

Over half the Canadian fleet (101's) are still grounded due to the ongoing tail rotor problems that they cannot solve.Not to mention near impossible to get spare parts.A hanger queen by the sounds of things.  'stir_the_pot'
