What was that...

Any aircraft movements in baldonnel late last night around 2-3am that can be spoken about?

I ask because it woke up a few residents of Naas '<img'>

High pitched whine as it approached... then it made a popping noise overhead, before disappearing loud and low off ENE on the usual track taken towards baldonnel. Gotta love the doppler effect.

I'm guessing it was an old turbojet rather than turbofan due to the bloody loudness. Not a sound I'm familar with at all - and living near Baldonnel, and with civilian traffic overhead alot of the time as well, you get to recognise each aircraft.

Random question I know, just curious  '<img'>

Dublin has been using runway 10 most of the weekend and some arrivals from the south would route via the Naas area - that would seem more likely than a Baldonnel movement.

You're right of course, it's alot more likely to be Dublin bound - I really just enquired here on the off chance it was Baldonnel.

I did hear it twice though during the night, with at least an hours seperation in time - i didnt get a look at it the first time.

Anyway it's unlikely anyone knows a thing

Hi Pym,
I remeber hearing a strange sounding aircraft on a number of occasions over Dublin. On investigation to the best of my knowledge it was a cargo Lockheed Electra. Hence the 'older' noise and the late time slot. Not many of these old birds about but I think Air Atlantique may still operate one, im not really sure.

AA use it to fly Cargo to Belfast.

Atlantic Airlines have several Electras in service and they are used from time to time on TNT's weekday evening service to Liege.  Departure is usually 2100 local from Dublin.
