Just Finished that UFO book

A few interesting stories stuck out such as the sighting in Sept 95 in Co Cavan in which a UFO was involved with an Air Corps Jet. Jerry Minihane was enjoying a night out with three friends at a popular nightclub in the Portmarnock area near Howth. After the club they were walking along the beach when they noticed and electric blue egg shaped object moving towards them heading out to sea, then as it disappeared out of sight they heard the noise of a fast jet following the object, they watched as a Fouga jet crossed over the beach heading out to sea after the object, the jet was low enough for Minihane to make out its Serial number.

The next morning he rang Baldonnel to ask about what had happened, the desk Officer knew nothing about any such activity so he asked to talk to a more senior officer, he was allowed to and was told nothing but he then decided to quote the Fouga Magisters Tactical Number and the response was much more irate than before......

Very interesting!

So he saw this Fouga at night, presumably after at least some consumption of alcohol.  I suspect that the Irish Fougas rarely flew in darkness, but others may have more information.  How low and slow do you think a Magister (a "fast jet!") would have to be for a person on the ground to read its serial?  Very, I think.  The fact that the area concerned is close to the arrival and departure routes for Dublin Airport might just be relevant here as well.

They flew quite a bit at night didnt they as Nighttime Ops occured alot so it says in the Air Corps celebration of flight pictorial brought out. The Fouga's serial is large compared other Foreign Mil AC and is noticeable, in fact id say alot of people could read it when they used to perform at Airshows. Dublin Airport also gets a mention quite alot regarding UFO's, still doesnt explain with the "Officer" should be Irate...Still you can argue this for years but it is a very interesting subject and i think people are very stupid to think that this planet it the only one capable of having intelligent life.

Howth, its always howth 'pilot_rolleyes' . Seeing serial numbers at an airshow in daylight is a bit different than at night,(although could have been early morning!)after a club,in pursuit of something blue, did he notice if the fouga was armed.....

Its funny,my da was sying he remembers stories like that floating around but paid no heed,He remembers on a few occasions whilst being on duty in gormo they would get calls from people sayin they spotted something, some woman saw something over raheny (coincidence, near airport)he told her to ring the airport. They also recieved a few calls from people in the slane area, when the approaches to dublin are changed due to weather or whatever a lot of aircraft fly over that area also.Anyway, he joked that the ufos might just be a tad bit faster than their cessnas 'pilot_laugh'

Faster than anything to be honest, remember the Belgian F16's who went up against the "Triangle" UFO, as soon as they could get radar lock the object would move off at great speed and pull crazy G loads that would kill a human.

So where was this alleged sighting? '<img'>

Really, in any story about strange things in the sky, the moment you see the words 'light' and 'night', you have to take heart-endangering sized grains of salt. People's perceptions of what they see in the dark is generally terrible and will prompt all sorts of wierd explanations depending on their own knowledge or, more often, ignorance.

In different times, people used to believe lights in the sky were dragons. 'nuff said.

While I agree that, based on what little we know, the possibility of intelligent life existing elsewhere in the universe should not be dismissed, the same knowledge we have about the same universe should also tell us that the chances of even one example of that intelligent life harnessing the required energy and technology (barely imaginable to us) and choosing to travel to this unremarkable solar system out of the billions out there and happen to arrive at the exact moment in time (a century being momentary in galactic terms) that the intelligent life on this planet has developed a culture in which stories about visits from other planets have become commonplace is far-fetched in the extreme. The numbers just don't add up.

Wasn't there reports of ops @ Dublin Airport being disrupted on day back in 2005 due to "unidentified" objects around the appraches? Fairly sure I read it somewhere but can't find any references.
