DC-3 at Weston?
« on: October 21, 2006, 05:26:06 pm »
A DC-3 in what looks to be in old military colours, of what air force I couldn't tell, just flew over my house on it's way into Weston. Has anyone any details on this?

A vintage plane owner (who is also a doctor) has an old USAF plane based at Weston Airport. I believe it's a 'Beech' plane which looks similar to a DC3.

Could have been him?

I am advised that the aircraft is indeed a C-47 in WW2 USAAF colours and that it has landed at Weston.  The registration is N473DC and it visited Shannon last year as N5831B.  I believe Frank has photos of it on that occasion on this site.  Let's hope it's staying for a day or two.

Hi guys,

The C-47 arrived at Westom at about 1715 local. I got a few photos and they can be seen at http://www.flyinginirelandmagazine.com/photo/thumbnails.php?album=8

The light was pretty poor but here's one of them:

Some green C47 were used during making of Band of Brothers, don't know wheter US or UK based.
And Frank, don't worry about poor light. It's very atmospheric and evokes some scenes from that TV series  'thumbsup'

I belive that filming of "Waiting for Dublin" has resumed about the place. It's a WWII movie and some vintage aircraft of the era are involved.

There are rumours, that some people are still owed money from the initial attempt to shoot the move. The Old Flying Machine Company were apparently involved in supply aircraft.

But then again, there's genarally some move shooting going on about the place you'd never know.

Far from looking like a DC3!!

This aircraft is owned by Dr. Tony Walsh and is home based at Weston, Co. Dublin. Has a very interesting career also its the 1 Ike flew in!

Today at 1650 (11 Nov.) N473DC arrived at Dublin from Waterford, having diverted from Weston.  It is expected to depart early on Sunday.
