Red Arrows TG4 Hector
« on: December 22, 2003, 11:05:04 am »
The Red Arrows performed a stunning show here in July at the Salthill Airshow. Hectors programme is quite good, in fact TG4's programming is a lot better than other stations. You'll all just have to polish up the aul gaeilge.

I have to disagree with turkey about hector beeing the least unbearable though. I find the weathergirl quite bearable  '<img'>

There was a great programme with Hector on TG4 tonight about a his trip to visit the Red Arrows, excellently filmed with Hector going or a spin in a Hawk and briefly taking the controls. It may be repeated and it had Subtitles for us now Irish speaking people.
Who mentioned Jets

Fair play to him - he didn't need the sickbag  '<img'>

The programme is usually repeated on Sunday night.

'Must get Mrs 'T' to tape that, out of all the TnG lot I must admit to finding Hector the least unbearable.

Seriously, in fairness to TnG, above all the other Irish stations, they seem to have paid more attention to our own armed forces as well, with fair doucmentries on the Air Corps and the NS even though they were done mainly in Irish, and their sub-titles are not the most readable,[not to 4 eyes-Turkey anyway]

I agree Turkey, TG4 have had several excellent documentaries about the DF's (some of which I taped).

They could show our "national broadcaster" a-thing-or-two !!!

That sounds like a good bit of PR from the RAF, are the British Forces now more acceptable in the Republic?

The Red Arrows have performed here on two occassions (that I know of) Air Spectacular 1987 and 2000.
(as well as other RAF aircraft - e.g. Tucano at Salthill 2001 or Bulldogs at Abbeyshrule 1998) - And they always get a warm welcome.

The situation in the North (and our past of course) has made it difficult to "accept" British forces in recent times.
However, I believe that is changing quickly, and I would go so far as to say I can see the day when RAF aircraft will regularly train here in the Republic alongside the Air Corps !!!
