I work in an office in London, near St Pauls and very close to the Thames. When helicopters are flying in London they follow the river for safety reasons. This is why I often see some very interesting machines.

Tut tut Flyboy! you can't be paying much attention to your work if you are watching helicopters pasing your office window 'stir_the_pot'
Reminds me of my school days when I would hear the sound of a Merlin from an Air Corps Spitfire and getting in to trouble as I searched out each window hoping to catch a glance. Ah nostalgia ... it's a thing of the past!

On a regular basis I see Lynx, Chinooks, Pumas, Gazelles, Seakings, Merlins, now and again I see Apaches. I have also seen Tornados and Harriers. Actually during that week when a couple of car bombs were found in London and Glasgow Airport was attacked, a pair of Tornados flew past.

The Met Police and Air Ambulance fly where they want, but all others follow the river when flying through central London. If they get into difficulties they can ditch in the Thames rather than come down over the City.
