Who remembers this 1977 Dublin Airport visitor?

Now we are showing our age !

There were two of them in During March 1977 & three more following May ! All ex French Air Force.

I guess they would still have been in active service then. Did they operate from french carriers?

No, they were land-based and served in Africa among other places, as far as I recall.

I think the French Air Force used them in Viet Nam & elsewhere in IndoChina rather than the Navy. After that some went to the Gabon Air Force circ 1968 including at least 2 of the aircraft that passed through DUB.

God I forgot about them .
I had just started spotting and saw them ,didnt know what they were at the time.


At that time  i was excited about BA tridents going right over my head just about to touch down on 24.

I think I can still smell them

Also in that year was Hemet Exploration C-47 F-OCUY, French Navy C-47 726 & DC-6 OO-IFA ! Emerald Schillelagh Chowder & Marching Society Lockheed Electra N125US was in for a few days in July. Iranian Air Force C-130 5-8513 was in during September, I think it was collecting horses. Also the year 5 or 6 French Air Force Noratlas went through on navigation exercises.

I remember the french C47 and also numerous FAF noratlas .if my memoery serves me right the french navy C47 had a lovely splash of day glow paint on them...

if i find my reg book in my parents house(which im sure is still under my bed ill take a look)
