Marchetti storage was usually only an inhibiting of the engine leading up to or during IRAN inspection or engine change or waiting for the Italians to supply parts, (their lead in times were grossly underestimated!), 139's beware!

By the way GTTC we have a third of the fleet and still aren't an "Operational" unit!

Makes you wonder what does justify the title of "operational", then?...........I well remember inhibiting the Lycomings.I also remember the shuffling around of aircraft when the IRANs were coming up, to get the highest-houred (engine) ones in line for the IRAN, so as not to waste hours.........Agusta were a pain in the arse for spares.Their support was dreadful.

Isn't 240 also used for multi-engine training/conversion for pilots? If it's "retired" what will be used to replace it in that role? The Defender (254) isn't as such an Air Corps AC and the Casa's (252 & 253) aren't really suitable (a bit big and should be busy else where).

And sure, it's only just been repainted!!

If 240 is gone for good, maybe the penny-pinchers in Kildare Street will suggest this for twin training;

Perhaps 240 is due for a major overhaul soon and it has been decided to retire and sell it, put the money from any potential overhaul towards a new twin in the coming years and do without a twin in the meantime.

The Air Corps is no doubt under orders to save money left, right and centre. I hope the first operation to get the chop is ministerial joyrides in the AW139. If it is necessary to haul their useless carcasses around the country the EC135 should suffice and that's only after there are no Cessnas available. Though it would be a gross insult to the Cessna pilots to have them carrying around our fearless leaders.

EI-BUN suffered a nosewheel collapse and resultant props/engine strike at Weston and has been replaced in service by a UK-reg'd Duchess.
