Air Corps EC135 on display in the RDS, 15th - 17th September 2010
« on: September 14, 2010, 02:15:09 pm »
The Defence Forces will have a stand at the Higher Options Careers Exhibition in the RDS from September 15th - 17th 2010.

The stand will include a Mowag Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), a Light Tactical Armoured Vehicle (LTAV), a Giraffe Radar system, an EC 135 helicopter, a Naval Service Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), a Bomb Disposal Robot and an assortment of military equipment.

Hopefully this is of interest to someone.

Saw the 135 accompanied by two Air Corps Pilots, one was telling me that the King Air is in need of an MOH which is not being followed up on so its going to be lying idle for a while 'supposedly'. The chap I was talking to is doing his training on the cessnas and was saying the cessna 208 caravans will most likely be replacing them. As for the 135, it was 271 that was on display which they got inside the RDS by removing 2 MR blades.

Overall the Df had a very good stand there. Very surprised too see the EC-135 actually inside the building.

If I'm not mistaken the Air Corps have, in the past, displayed various serving aircraft indoors, including (I think) a Hurricane and a Gazelle in the RDS.

There are also of course the Magister and Vampire in Collins Barracks while they also squeezed a retired Marchetti into the Rua Red centre in Tallaght.

Has there been any other indoor displays by the Air Corps in the past?

One of the Reims Rockets was on display at the RDS early 1970's during the Spring Show week. I think it carried it's Matra rockets launchers.

Frank,
Back in September 1945 the great exhibition at the RDS had  two Hurricanes nos 104 a mark 1 and 120 a mark 11C as well as a Magister none other than 34 now at Collins Barracks all in pristine condition. It was one of the best Defence Forces exhibitions ever .

We had an Alouette and a Gazelle on a stand in the RDS at one time!! can't remember the dates! Great fun manning the stands!! we were stood at the front of the Alouette and suddenly the whole aircraft started rocking back and forth!!!... went around the aircraft to find a dad showing his son how flexible the blades were by swinging on the starboard side blade!!... Pillock!!! :)
At the end of the second last day, we were putting the equipment on display into the aircraft for the night.
It included an inflated one man liferaft, and as a certain crewman lifted it from the floor,he stood on the activation lanyard and blew the bottle!!! The discharging bottle in an already inflated raft caused a bang that could be heard back in Baldonnel!!! we stood there, in shock, as bits of raft materiel and talc rained down around us!! :) We were like snowmen!!!:) Nice one Dicko!!! :)
