Air Corps D.R.O.P.S vehicles ?
« on: November 19, 2003, 08:27:22 pm »
Hi Guys,

I've seen one or two D.R.O.P.S vehicles on the roads with Air Corps markings.

Every time I pass a DF vehicle on the road out of curiosity I have a glance at the unit plate and when I spotted the D.R.O.P.S naturally I looked and hey presto, Air Corps markings.

Regards,

Frank.

I noticed on Six One this evening, that many of the DROPS vehicles getting ready to depart to Liberia were carrying AC crests.

Firstly, I didn't know that the AC operated DROPS vehicles and secondly, will these vehicles be manned in Liberia by AC personnel   '<img'>

(For anybody who doesn't know, DROPS vehicles are the Left hand drive, slide bed trucks operated by the DF's)

The Air Corp DROPS trucks that were seen on RTE were still painted OG. I'd say they were there assisting in the transport effort, not actually travelling abroad.
D'oh!

The Aer Corps were the only unit to have a blue background on vehicle flash plates. Does anybody know where the Irish Forces are serving in the world and the approximate numbers?
Also are any 'Techies' allowed to go on these postings?
In my day we were flatly refused permission to apply for UN duties, so a few of us went to the PAs hut to join them (there were notices up in the canteen at that time: "A career in the Military Police!") but the PA sergeant just told us that they weren't that desperate for staff!

Any chance you were seeing a S&T insignia?

S&T Insignia don't exist anymore in the PDF it would be a Logs Bn insignia on the Truck. Air Corps would be Sky blue around the Crest. But there are no S&T units within the Air Coprs.

E Bde Green.
W Bde White.
S Bde Orange.
Depot(DFTC) Red.
I'd say it was a 4 Logs Bn Badge with a white circle around it.

I've yet to see an Air Corps DROPS.

I'm 99% sure it was an AC crest.
I even had a 'double take' when I saw it  '<img'>

I was in Mckee all last weekend and I didn't notice it. and we had a good look at all the stuff thats going out as it's taking up the entire Square!!. They usually remove Unit Crests from Vehicles going overseas. I did watch it on the 9 o'clock news last night but didn't see the crest so I can't say.
