A report in Monday's Irish Times states that the leased Sikorsky 61 has been returned to CHC helicopters and the Air Corps no longer provides SAR in Ireland.

Is the S-61 still at Sligo or will it go to Baldonnel prior to being returned to CHC?

The aircraft was returned to CHC approx one month ago.

The SK 61 at Sligo has just carried out it's first SAR op. under the new CHC operation today. So SAR is alive and well in Sligo but not under IAC. We must move onward from from here and see that the long term future in SAR in Europe is going Civil.

so what is the story with SAR in the air corps at the moment do we still have aircraft and crew on alert to handle in-land SAR, or for that matter do we still have winches on aircraft to do the job

My, isn't Sligo a busy little base.They have just finished their second tasking in as many days.They are certainly making up for lost time '<img'>
