Icelandic Coast Guard

There was an excellent programme on TG4 tonight which included great footage of Icelandic Coast Guard rescues, using their Dauphin and Puma helis.

The 'Fiorsceal' programme was about the (tough!) life of Icelandic fishermen.
It also included footage of rescues by U.S Blackhawks, or "NATO helis" as the Icelanders referred to them.

It may be repeated at a later date (as some TG4 programmes are).

Interestingly, the Iceland Coast Guard run training programmes for their fishermen which includes the fishermen going through the procedure of being rescued by helicopter at sea.

Irish Govt/Coast Guard take note !!

I never fail to be impressed by the high quality of documentaries/programmes produced /shown by TG4 !

Silver,
It was a very interesting programe indeed.A lot of good footage of some very hostile sea's.The IRCG have just released a DVD called working with helicopters. It basically tells you a little about what they (IRCG) do , area's of responsibility, heli bases, heli type, and so on.Some very good footage of heli ops from inside and outside the aircraft with MRT and lifeboats. The reason for the DVD is to educate emergency personnel as well as the public who might come into close contact with these aircraft.

I notice that 'Fiorsceal' is advertised for 11.30pm tonight on TG4.
However, it does not state the contents of tonights programme.
