RDF and what to do with them (2)
« on: January 01, 2005, 10:44:37 pm »
I couldn't reply to the previous thread, 'cos Frank closed it! I just wanted to say that we cooked the Goose a few years back in relation to what we should do with the reservists.
Back in the late '70s or early '80s there was an FCA camp in Baldonnel during the summer and they were billeted in the old Skid Row block, so they had to walk between Tech Wing and Flying Wing blocks to the Dining Hall, which is now Porno Section, well the poor 'baggers had to run the gauntlet if they weren't 'sinked' by the Tech Wing lads they were 'sinked' by the Flying Wing lads, with a score kept! No wonder they didn't want to go back there! Pity, they could have done all the duties for the summer, allowing the techies to go on leave. It was good sport at the time though!
Incidentally I was an ex FCA private (B Coy. 7th Batt.)  and I didn't experience any hostility from Dan Fay or the Nipple when I was doing my basic training, quite the reverse, they semed happy that they didn't have to teach me how to march, etc.

Don't cod yourself Johnny, DF and Nipple gave up on you, and could not take it any more. What do you think Ward 3 was for in Bricins. Who won the sinking competition in the FCA ? I think it was flying wing if I remember correctly. We could have upped the score if we knew you were one of them. Hows things over there. They are now called the SAS........Saturdays And Sundays. Talk to ya soon. '<img'>

Thanks John K for reopening this thread - like you it was locked up before I gave my 2 cent worth!

First of all I strongly feel that anyone giving of their free time to matters of society, state and/or the betterment of society should be congratulated, not made fun of!! Same with our Reserve Defence Forces - if anything they should be expanded with even a Reserve Air Corp wing in my view.

Finally I asked the knockers - where would todays Isrealie Defence Forces be without Reservists?  I rest my case!

Yeah, Bitch it was definately Flying Wing, even though the poor lads had to walk past Tech Wing each time and it needed a snatch squad to get them!
Thing's over here are snafu! There's going to be more areas of maintenance closing down at LHR heading for the regions, which means another surplus of staff, no-one laid off, they always find somewhere for you to go, 747 stuff is ok, we're well understaffed on night shift, but the 767, and 757 majors are going. No youngsters starting apprenticeships, though, there's going to be a big shortage of skilled staff in a few years time. I've written to you in the SAR/RAF thread, Cheers, JK.
And FF I do agree with you about part timers, now that I'm one myself! Although the forces over here do appreciate the art timers.
