Helicopter at 4am
« on: July 01, 2005, 04:34:23 am »
...just wondering, this is the second time in 3 weeks I've heard a helicopter go over my house at this time - and needless to say, I'm not up at 4am all that often, so I'm wondering what it is.

A) it's a very unusual time, its only starting to get bright
B) it sounds like a small modern chopper
C) it sounds like it flies a straight point to point route at speed. it doesnt come back.

It is not an a3 or dauphin, of that i'm sure. sounds more like an a-109 i think.

the only air corps involvement I can think of, is if it's one of the Garda choppers. As far as I know one of them is down in Limerick alot of the time, while the other stays in Dublin.

Can any of the lads in baldonnel tell me if he Garda helicopters in their experience operate out of baldonnel at this time? Since its the 2nd time in 3 weeks, the only scenario i can think of is if it's one of them doing a regular flight either to or from limerick.

this post is all over the place sorry... im half asleep... its just odd to hear helicopters at 4am in this part of the world.. in my experience... with this regularity.. (if it was dublin at 3am on a  saturday night... it'd be different)

its a really strange time for commercial heli flights too.. first commercial jets dont generally rumble overhead for another half hour... and anyway, like i said, this isnt a once off, i heard it three weeks ago - the last time i was up this late..

i'm 100% sure this will have a boring explanation, but i'd like to hear it

anyway.. goodnight,. good morning

I too heard an unusual sounding heli about last week (I know the sounds of the A3's and Dauphin's).

GASU EC-135 perhaps ?

Hi lads,

Yes it is possible that the Gasu heli could be out and about, they are on 24hr call, but i dont thing it would be as routine as that pym, could be a private job doing business trips perhaps......

There was a large Air Corps presence over the southside of Dublin today. A dauphin was hovering for almost an hour while at least one PC9 was flying low and fast(flew right over my head at one point-far lower than I`ve ever seen before).Anyoe know what the story with that is?

Today it's like a helicopter convention over my home. I deliberately took out my binoculars to watch instead of listen; so far I've watched the AC Gazelle flying north, the Helicopter I mistook for the AB-139 in a previous post (Bell 430) fly west, twice(!) and an R22 flying south

now an EC-130 (EI-MET)

are there races on?  '<img'>
