Baldonnel The Future

With the large aerodrome that is Baldonnel,with Dublin Airport not able to cope, will there be a day that Baldonnel will be a second Airport for Dublin,look at other major cities?Will it work,with the new roads and infastructure around the Don i  think it is not far away?

This has been the subject of much much speculation over the years -- there was a strong attempt made by Tony Ryan for example.

However there is such preoccupation with sorting out the mess at Dublin that I think the powers that be would welcome a second airport like a hole in the head.

There is also the fact that the Tony Ryan proposals brought an anti-noise backlash from the densely populated communities under the approach path (from either direction) to the main runway.  There is also the issue that the runway at Casement may be a bit on the short side for a laden 737.

So all that taken into account I don't see it being a runner in the short term although there is no doubt that the improvement in the roadnetwork in that area would pose many attractions ...

Perhaps it may become a hub for business and/or cargo aircraft only (i.e. no passenger aircraft)?

Comments taken, but with that side of the city so big and also people travelling up the n7,a second airport would ease up a lot of traffic at dublin, and baldonnel would gain from the expansion with better infastructure and aerodrome.

Dont think we can expand beyond our present fenceline as we're boxed in on all sides bar one by industrial estates and golf courses!!!
