Short Finals, how did you find that site? Pity there's no photo of the Apprentices Hostel, I'd use that as my screensaver! Or Skid Row!

I found the site by entering "Baldonnel" into the images section of Google - took about two seconds!

hi all
The times they are a changin'. What ever happened to the prohibition on taking photos of buildings and installations on Defence Forces property? I guided a lot of tours in the place and always warned people off taking shots of the infrastructure, on the orders of the higher-ups.
regards
GttC

There is difference between approrpriate security and heavy-handed bans on photographing fairly ordinary buildings.  After all, the hangars at Baldonnel are pretty similar, as far as I know, to the WW1-vintage ones at places like Duxford.  Modern cameras, especially with the digital age, probably make such bans effectively unenforceable anyway.

Yeah, I've just got back from an ATC annual camp at RAF Coningsby, we were told not to take photos but got the group photo in front of a Typhoon! The Cadets were taking photos of themselves with their camera phones, Lord only knows what was in the background!
Frank, you should have seen some of the aerobatics those Typhoons were capable of, and the take off run on afterburner! Also I got the best flight in a Grob Tutor I've ever had! I even got to do Cubans, Half Cubans, Split eights myself! The pilot did talk me through them though, just as well 'cos I didn't have any idea where I was! Pulled +4G too and it felt like the 6G I remember pulling in a Fouga, 'course I was a lot younger and fitter then and the Fouga could sustain the G!

I know what you mean about Conningsby John, last year we visited the FJOEU when at Waddington we were told take pics where you like but try not to get any of the bits in the corner as the Yanks wont like it! So I have pics of  cadets bouncing on the wing of an F3 with god knows what in the background (they were being shown how strong the wings were!).On our Baldonnal trip I was told I could photograph anything I wanted and I did.

Hi Sniper, how are you? We went to Waddington to do the ATC Swimming proficiency, lovely pool! 4 Sentries were lined up on the ramp!
We also had a great visit to HHA based at Scampton, they've got a few Hunters, a Buccaneer and a Mig! Excellent guided tour by their Chief Engineer.
One of the Cadets got the 'Shit a brick' award at the end of the week-as he was climbing out of one of the Hunters he caught the battery switch with his (big, fat) foot! The aircraft powered up and he jumped out quicker than if he'd pulled the ejection handle!

Hi Sniper, I hope you haven't made your back worse? The range in Coningsby is at the end of the runway so it's great if you're not firing as there's always something taxiing past and the pilots give a cheery wave to the Cadets, or the spectacular take offs! But if you're trying to give range orders you can't get a word in edgeways! I can't shout as loud as a tornado taking off!
