Regarding exotic aircraft to visit Ireland ... didn't an Ecuadorean Air Force Canberra crash-land near Dunmore in north Co. Galway in the 1960s?

It happened all right ... as far as I know a flight of Canberras on a delivery flight from the UK to Ecuador. I recall seeing a plaque in Dunmore mentioning the episode ...

The Ecuadorian Air Force Canberra force landed on 22 August 1962 at Lissybroder, Dunmore (M.Burke's field) It was one of three returning to Uk for overhaul. The pilot Lt.Col Escobar, the navigator Lt.Jose Carrera and one Raymond C Herman were uninjured. It was dismantled and eventually taken to UK. One of the other Canberras encountered trouble but made it into Ballykelly.

Thanks 202, HeIII exotic Hess? not so sure if the word exotic is quite appropriate for the thread.I would rather use the word unusual. Certainly in Ireland such aircraft were unusual but then not being an air minded country probably any aircraft in Ireland was unusual. What about the Short Flying Boat/Mayo composite for instance? and the number of aircraft involved in the King's Cup Air Race in the thirties who visited Baldonnel. There was the Junkers W34 and Fitzmaurice and there was Cobham.....it goes on and on.
