In the early years of my research into the aircraft of the Air Corps I was always consious of the lack of air to air photographs and continually asked that each type be covered before they are withdrawn from service. If we look for air to air photographs of relatively recent type such as the Vampire, Provost, Dove, Chipmunk you will find that they are almost non existant, not to mention the Hurricanes, Seafires and Spitfires.The Air Corps are to be commended for rectifying this by covering all the types in service or just retired and thus creating a record of the current and immeditae past types for the future.

Someone has mentioned that getting the photos was an expensive process, well here's the news, IT IS. There's almost nothing in aviation as dangerous as the impromptu photo opportunity. Many times (usually around airshows, when there are lots of visiting aircrews) people would suggest "meeting up" for some unbriefed formation or photo shoots. Well, they never got near to me or any of my formations. It's simply too dangerous.
As for taking photos of aircraft that are manoeuvring, that's even harder, because the photographer's aircraft has to loosen out from the normal formation position, and has far greater turn radii than normal etc. (e.g. front cover shot of fouga on 1997 Swallows brochure.
Why do I post this? Well, if you want to have the photos, you have to do it right. End of story.
Hats off to the photographers. Not an easy environment to take photos!

Hi guys,

Instead of making a new thread I thought Id ask here.. On Tuesday 17th Jan at approx. 1500 I saw the two EC135s flying in formation over Bray heading South.

Anyone know where they were off to? It was a lovely sight, even though they were in the distance. '>
