First off, this isn't intended as a like for like comparison, more emotional than factual ....

With the imminent demise of the Air Corps Alouette III fleet, it got me thinking; could it be that given its ubiquitous use, versatility, longevity of service and iconic shape the SA316B (and variants) can be considered the European UH-1 Iroquois (Huey)?

I know there are technical differences in capability, range and deployments between the two, but in terms of where it will be remembered in the public psyche and with its aircrews, there appears to be a fondness for this old girl (who is of course of similar vintage to the bigger American bird).

Just a thought.

There is plenty of life in the A3. We'll be seeing flying tadpoles for another few years yet.

Lets not mourn its demise until its actually out of service. 'thumbsup'
