You'd also need some sort of defence or aeronautics indusrty to invvset in...and poor old FLS won't cut it.

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the purchase of brand spankin' new fightin' tackle(no less than the air corps deserves) best example being Gripen consortium(as they're offset package(which is where this thread will lead) to the tune of about €2.1Billion (which is what either S.africa or hungary were offered for 24 c models and 4 d two seaters with full training ) but were offering an offset package of to the value of about€6 billion??so surely deals like this, although i know a lot of this cash is 'invisible' ,would be worth while for a sleeping economy such as our own in order to kick start it?Granted we have no pure military aerospace company we have got many highly qualified aeronautical engineers currently floating about you would perhaps contribute to a future developement in the founding of such a company. Also we have many electrical industries that could benefit greatly from making of radars etc etc from such a purchase any thoughts gentlemen (or indeed fair ladies)...

Two hopes (1) No Hope and (2) Bob Hope, and we all know what happened to him. If we can't afford an ACJ then there is no way a fleet of jets will arrive '<img'>

Not a bad idea at all, Red Baron.
I'm sure (if we had competent political leadership) that a deal, along the lines of what you suggest, could be struck for not only jets, but medium-lift helis (and perhaps even light helis).

For an entire new AC fleet even !

Unfortunatly only 2 chances, [1] slim, and [2] I don't think much of this one either.
Pity, 'cause it's a good idea, but only if some work is being done on the other critical requirements of the Air Corps, such as utility heli's , troop transports and SAR assets without which no modern military air-arm can effectively function.
Ireland, no jets, no future!
