The Irish Coast Guard is organising the Annual SAR (Search and Rescue) Exercise to take place at Youghal, County Cork, at 4pm on Sunday, 28th May, 2006. The purpose of the exercise is to raise awareness for safety on the water, on the cliffs, rivers and lakes of Ireland and to show the skill of the different organisations involved in marine search and rescue in Ireland.


The programme will commence at 4pm and run for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It will take place on the town side of the lighthouse with good viewing and parking available. Taking part will be SAR helicopters, Irish Naval Service vessels, Air Corps aircraft, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeboats, Coast Guard Units, Lifeguards, Civil Defence, Ambulance, An Garda Siochana and Fire Service. The programme will involve mock rescues including yachts, fishing vessels, sailboards, cliff fallers and swimmers. It will be an excellent opportunity to photograph the action as the different units are put through their paces.
