Trip to RIAT Fairford 2004
« on: July 23, 2003, 08:31:08 pm »
Hi Guys,

Over the last few weeks I've had a good bit of exposure to Military Aircraft what with the Salthill Air Show and the Dauphin in Finner (lots of photos of both still to go online by the way, got a nice low level, high speed shot of the Dauphin at Finner so watch this website!) and I've got the taste for lots of noise and power, anyway, I'm wondering would any of you out there be interested in going to an airshow in the UK next year, maybe RIAT Fairford?

Now, before I go any further, I'd like to put in a few qualifiers....

I'm NOT a travel agent

I'm only asking at the minute if there would be any people interest in such a trip

I'm not booking anything just yet!

By this time next year I could have no money as I'll be in the middle of kitting out a new house so money could be tight for me, i.e. no holidays for Frank.

I would love to go to one of the really big shows and I don't think Fairford would be too expensive, and if a group went on say a ferry / coach it could work out cheaper than taking the car.

I'm only thinking out loud here, testing the water you might say.  Would any of you out there be interested in a group trip to Fairford?

Just do the poll and we'll see what the reaction is.

Please don't vote unless you would be actually available to go to the airshow, i.e.  Irish based members only (no offence to other board members intended, I just want to get a realistic response).

Regards,

Frank.

Good idea Frank,
just got back from Riat 2003 on tuesday and all I can say is WOW, Fairford airbase is huge, you need some good shoes for the amount of walking you have to do for the static, as for the flying display, well what can i say......

P.s, got some shots of the casa and the crew that were over there, they are a great bunch.

Hi Guys,

I have to kiss goodbye to the idea of trying to organise a group trip to Fairford next year....

I found out a few days ago that I have a can't miss wedding to go to that weekend or the weekend after, also, like I said in my first post I'll have a new house to take care of (solicitors / snag lists / furniture, etc, etc) so I won't have the time (or the money) to be organising a trip like that.

I'm afraid it'll be every man and woman for themselves.  I still hope to go but I'll have to see how things pan out closer to the date.

Sorry about that, '<img'>

Frank.

while riat is a great show i would like to recommend the edwards afb open day to anybody who is around at the right time, last year yeager did a low level supersonic pass, stunning to see the man still flying, at mach 1+ too.
another great day or should i say 4 days is the reno air races, mustangs sea furys migs all low level and really fast, the mustangs hit 500+ knots at about 100ft AGL.
so if anyone is in california from june to september i would recommend checking these events out, personally i would make the trip just to see the reno races.
you're not lost until you're lost at mach 3
