Three AIIIs spotted south of Naas this morning (Wed, 18th) 0855, heading south-west. Probably an Army co-op exercise at the Curragh? A while since I had seen three together.

Two helos in formation heading east, north of Naas, about 1400 today. Think they were AIIIs but cannot be certain. Unusual on a Sunday.

Yup. Sneaky beaky stuff with the boys in green. Pity that the exercises haven't been given proper approval for low level (although Kildare isn't exactly the best place for that!!) but maybe that will change soon. You may like to know that the Air Corps has designated areas of the Curragh plains as a helicopter training area as Bal is a little restrictive for circuits and general handling since the intro of the ILS.

Why, what difference does the ILS make - and is it now operational?

The beam on the ILS can be interrupted by low level helis manouvering during routine training on the field. It is operational on runway 11 and once aircraft turn inbound at a certain distance, helis can be restricted to 50 ft, so it screws up circuits resucing the useful training time. if a full PC9 course are out doing ILS training you may forget about heli training on the field. Gets a bit restrictive with the amount of other improvements going on at the moment, but they are just routine.

Poor Helis. Why do you have to operate on the field anyway? do you get a nosebleed if you leave the airfield boundary?  'pilot_grin' get out yizzer charts, sextants, CRP5s and make that arduous trek to the Curragh... 'stir_the_pot'

Jesus wept!
The whole point of buying a sim, at great cost, was that the kiddies could burn volts instead of engine hours practising ILS approaches. The Alouettes should, as has been said, shag off to the Curragh and fool around there.still the same old conspicuous waste of tax dollars going on...issue them with a PC and Flight Sim X and compel them to do two hours a day practising ILS/NDB/VOR approaches long before they ever get near an aircraft.
