Going back to the original post, would it not make sense to ask Belgium for help, if as seems the case, we have no interest in defending ourselves (or even training for such defence)?

After all, who could complain about Belgium, let's assume you're not from the Congo, they are changing their military in order to put an emphasis on humanitarian tasks etc. (I'm not saying we are in need of hymanitarian aid...yet). If we ask our good friends, Britain, there may be some protest (especially if the Bloody Sunday hearing gives justice), but Belgium, no real Irish enemies.

The quote I take exception to is ...... "Unless of course you can admit to being staff aboard the Giv."

The tone and content of this comment belittles the role and therefore the individual". Someone serving in this capacity may well have much more factual or 'on the ground' information to contribute to this board than those contributers with no direct involvement at all with the Air Corps.

My earlier question remains unanswered!!

It may have even sounded better if we asked a Neutral Nation like Sweden, then all the protestors wouldnt mind hearing the sound of freedom roaring through Irish Skies once again... '<img'>

I agree with Fouga - if we do actually ask anybody to provide air defence (which I doubt we will) it MUST be a neutral country, like Sweden.

However, I reckon that our Air Defence Regiment and Marchetti's/PC-9's will be doing the job !
