I have just got word that the Duxford based ex Air Corps Spitfire 161 is no longer in Irish colours. It has been painted in Dutch colours (who also used the Trainer Spitfire) for the coming season.

Nooooo.......

I heard rumours about this, the aircraft owner is Dutch so it was to be expected.

I never got a good shot of that aircraft in Sunlight  '<img'>

about the original airframe of the Spit.... was it Dutch or Irish?
When Irish , I'll try to stirr things up here 'pilot_grin' .

Hi Guinness
The Spitfire was built as a Mark LF.IXe in 1944 and went to 33 Sqn 2nd Tactical Air Force in France. It has a Dutch connection in as much as it operated with 412 Sqn. RCAF in the push through Belgium and Nederland and was in combat claiming FW190 and Bf109's.
after the war it was converted to two seater and supplied to the Air Corps. Its Dutch colour scheme may not be permament and may revert to the Irish colours.

ah no!it looks like any spit now!at least the Irish scheme gave the plane a bit of personality!heres hoping it will revert back to its original scheme shortly!it would be great to have it over here for salthill in its Irish camo!

looking at the pics on the link above IAC 161 still shows under the flag on the tail.....nice paint scheme but of course better in IAC colours.. 'pilot_wink'
