So they gave away Fouga 220 '<img'>

Surely it should have been retained for the museum collection - seeing as it was the last Fouga in use and also lead aircraft of the Silver Swallows ?!!

Personally, he probably doesn't, but I reckon he reads appropriate transcripts given to him.  After that, he has people who can probably find out the source of each post if it warrants it!

As a matter of interest, the Vampire used as the gate guard was 198, this was the former XE977 ex RAF and used by the Air Corps for technical training. It never flew in the Air Corps. It was a credit to all involved in its restoration and such a pity to see it and especially the Avro XIX in their present state of neglect. A lot of dedicated work went into the Avro XIX.

I'm not concerned about him reading my/our posts - I am interested to know if he would 'take on board' any suggestion we make, however small.

For example, I would suggest that erecting a Fouga "gate guardian" at Casement would be a great way to generate good PR and pride in the Corps (as the Tesco ad. says - "every little helps" !).

Well done Tony! Hey Claudel were you one of the blokes who robbed the Vampire from outside the HOSTEL! 'Cos it was six of my crowd (40th!)) who took all the RAF bits, assembled them and painted them up in Air Corps colours, then trundled it past riverside to the front of the Apprentice Hostel, where it stood for a while before being hijacked to the Officers Mess! I know you were only following orders!

there was a fougha as a gate guard a while back, it guraded the gate by the office mess back door. it vanished a while back, i guess some drunk fired it up and went for a spin

AF07 you are mistaken about the gate guard at the Off Mess. It was Vampire 192 because I was part of the crew that put it there and repainted it. It is now in the "Museum". The Fouga's were never used as a guard because they were never sure what use was to be made of the Fouga's after their retirement until it was decided to send of three of them to IT colleges. 215, 217 and 219 are still here along with the French AF airframe.

Have ye seen the state of the "Museum"? At least the wright flyer will fit in!!
I believe the other side of BFTS is being turned into the clothing stores!!!! So much for me thinking they were getting it ready for the PC-9's!!
