Fouga 215 Pictures

Hi Guys,

I was in Baldonnel yesterday (21st Jan) for the day and I took some pictures of Fouga 215 looking all shiny and new, it's a pity is still isn't airworthy.

Anyway, I've attached small versions of the pictures for you guys to have a look at, I still haven't had a chance to upload the full size ones, I haven't been able to access the site for the whole day until now that is, so these will have to do until I get a chance to upload the full size pics.

It looks great.  They should really leave it there on permanent display.

It certainly looks good - but I'm not so sure it should be left outside on permanent display - I remember that a Vampire was 'displayed' at the officer's mess some years ago and it really suffered from our damp climate.

As a true aircraft fanatic I was impressed by the types of aircrafts still stored in there>

This range of pictures shows ( again ??) the need of an IAC museum to my humble opinion.

You're dead right Guinness. How much would it cost to set up and run a museum? It would pay for itself with a small entrance fee. It wouldn't even have to be on the 'live' side of the airfield.
By the way, those photos of 215 brought back memories for me, Frank. Thanks!

I think thats the first Picture of a an Irish Fouga I've seen with the "Air Brakes" up.

Good to see it all shiny and like new.

Eh, yes.  I too have walked across the discarded Vampire wing, and pushed past the remains of 3-KE to see what's stored there.  Rubbed the dust on 215, and seen the tape peeling off the Anson.

My point is Tucco that it's a  ( *%^^$#@*&) shame that all the history in that few square meters is about to be scrapped while it IS an important part of Irish military history .

Even as a Clog I feel terrible that all these planes are left to rot in there.

What I try to say is that I do feel sorry for history and I''m realy thinking of a way to get these planes saved for the future.
What is needed in Irish legislation to start a foundation to save these things?

Maybe we can start a fund to "" obtain ""  a plane to get it restored.

Any idea guys?

great points guiness but wheres the money going to come from. its hard enough to get money to keep the current aircraft in good nick never mind the old ones.

Just to put an end to your worries, the Museum is well on the way to being up and running after being cleaned out and re-arranged,with the A/C that need repair being looked after one by one in Engineering wing!! Theyre looking for staff to help in their own time though,now thats were your gonna start getting probs cos most people want to spend as little time in the Don as possible never mind on their days off!!!

It would be great if they displayed two Fougas at the gates
of the Don, and mouted them on stands!!!!!!!!!! I hope the Air Corps gets revamped with more equipment one of these days!!!
