I recall reading, a few years ago, that a Hurricane or Spitfire replica could be purchased for circa STG 20,000 pounds.
(i.e. c.the same as what the Wright Flyer cost).

Any chance we will see one purchased for the AC museum collection ?

Would it not be better to apply for a lotto grant of about half a million and get a real one?............................. but after we get some real military aircrafts. I could be wrong, but perhaps it would be better to concentrate on getting military equipment for the military first.

Just a thought....

Considering the air corps short sighted record of aviation history nothing is surprising. I mean we left how many hurri's rotting up the drome for yonks and then let someone canibalize them and fly one away. mind you Ralph seems more interested in the museum than a lot of things. I guess we'll just have to wait and see as usual.

Definitely it would be super to see 'the real thing'. But there is little chance of that I reckon, unless one is donated/loaned, or the lottery offer the cash.

(Just read that the UK lottery is giving STG 2.5 million towards restoring a Vulcan jet to airworthy condition. It comes under 'Heritage Funding' over there).

However, it would still be great to see a Hurricane or Spitfire replica in AC colours.
Wouldn't it look great in the museum, or on outdoor display at the next Baldonnel air show ?

Actually, the AC Hurricanes get little mention on this board. After all, they were the mainstay of the AC fighter fleet during WWII.
Perhaps it's because they are not as "sexy" as the Spitfires  '<img'>

Or even sexier if it was a flying Irish Air Corps Spitfire doing the Scene!

The museum is looking really well at the moment.A lot of work has gone into it and its displays not only include aircraft but engines, an Allouette rig, the Wright Flyer and an old IR simulator.Does anyone know where Miles Magister 34 is?

Taj,
Miles Magister 34 was in the Museum Hangar the last time I visited (about two weeks ago) Its wings had been removed to facilitate storage, otherwise it is all there.

Hi Tony,
I was in there Monday having a look and taking a few photos.I was very impressed by the improvements. It was only when I was home that I remembered the Magister and I couldn't remember seeing it anwhere! It could very well be there. As you go in, on the right is a Provost,Vampire and a Fouga(219),at the far end are Fouga 217 and a Chipmunk in the far corner. The Wright Flyer is on the far side and the Anson is in the other corner.Where was the Magister?I am kicking myself because being the oldest aircraft in the collection I didn't take any photos.I suppose minus the wings there was probably no point anyway!

Thanks for clearing that up Tony-it was only when I got home that I even remembered it!
