Heard on a news station today that the Sligo based S61 Helicopter had to make an emergency landing while on a tasking to Inishbofin after some warning light came on, it landed in a field near Lough Conn.
Does any one have any more info

Michael, I heard two stories, both I would say are complete crap. One was both engines failed!!! the second was the gearbox packed up and just as the S61 landed in the field near crossmolina the rotors locked. I could be wrong but they sound mad.
Who mentioned Jets

Was watching on TV earlier, program about Coastguard in south coast of the UK.
Anyway,Portland Coastguard use an S61,and some years back lost their aircraft in a total loss fire, which the crew were lucky to walk away from. Their current aircraft (WB)also suffered an engine fire during the filming of this show last year. Scary thing was it happened during a rescue, seconds after the winchman had touched down. The ensuing panic as the crew searched the crowded coastline for a suitable place to put down was unsettling to say the least.
Damage to the aircraft, apart from the engine, was minimal, and it returned to normal duties sometime later, the logistics of which were sadly not covered on the show.

Is the S-61 still based/operating from Sligo for the Air Corps or has it been returned to its civil owners?  '<img'>
