Now that major security exercises around Shannonside have been stood down could I state that the Pilatius 9M cut a dash in the area and even the Americans were most impressed!!
Can I also give great praise to the great work members of the Irish Defence Forces generally. A very professional piece of work indeed.

Hi all, Shannon ops is right! exceapt if your in the south Brigade!, they called it an excercise/training mission so they wouldnt have to pay the troops Subsistance apparently!, anyhoo not too important to the aircraft heads.. Oh b4 i forget,( AS far as i know this is the story) there was trouble with the garda plane after it flew in front of the american airbus that was flying support to Air force one! and after being told that it did not have clearence to land by Shannon ATC it flew in anyway... so the story goes! also as im sure you read in the papers about the PC 9 declearing an emergency... it was on its reserves, and was just as a precaution... no biggy aparrently( Tech told me), the marchetti's were armed over the weekend i saw it myself... how much fun that would be to get off a few rounds... i also have Pics from Iraq coming to me of apaches in action!

one of the lads i know told me he was coming back from the Med on friday in his C172 and was outside the perimeter and SNN told him not to come in and he didnt and they sent up the Pc-9's to escort him out he was told "you should have a mil escort on either side" NOT THE EXACT WORDS but u get the jist..

Are you saying he was returning from the Mediterranean in his single engined 172 and what do you mean by the perimeter. If there was an air exclusion zone he would have been aware of this when he filed a flight plan as it would have been published in the SNN NOTAMS. He would have to have filed a flight plan for such a flight. He would also have contacted SNN Approach long before he entered their airspace and would have been advised of an air exclusion notice. I fear this is a story of fancy, but it sounds good to people who don't fly!!
