Red Arrows to be scrapped ?

I read in the International Express paper (here in New Zealand) that the Red Arrows face possible disbandment due to UK DoD cutbacks ?!

Apparently, a lot of people in the UK intend to fight any such decision as the Red Arrows are viewd as a 'national treasure'.

(The Team are also part-sponsored by BAe).

Heard thru the Grapevine that that is just all blown out of proportion they will not disband.

I very much doubt that the MOD would call for the disbandment of the Red Arrows seen as they are a major source of recruitment for the RAF and other forces and the fact that they are outstanding international ambassadors for the RAF as well.

Not likely FF they wud be thrown back into RAF Valley for OCU and Fast Jet training.

The rumour is not a million miles from the truth ... although it does seem that the Red Arrows have escaped the recent round of cutback announcements by UK MoD but it has been announced that three Jaguar squadrons are to be wound up and there is also to be a reduction in the number of Nimrods. RAF Coltishall, the Jaguar base is to close.  And presumably if there are to be fewer front-line planes then there will be a backwash on the training side of things with fewer training aircraft needed at Linton-on-Ouse or Valley.
