Air Corps aircraft display in Kerry
« on: August 17, 2004, 05:15:03 pm »
Hi Guys,

The Irish Air Corps, in association with the Rose of Tralee Festival Committee, are putting on a display of static aircraft at Kerry Airport (click here for directions) on Saturday 21st August 2004.

According to the Rose of Tralee website event calendar there will also be an air display starting at 14:00hrs:

Quote

14.0 AIR DISPLAY Kerry Airport
This daring and exciting air display is presented to us by the Air Corps with the International Roses in attendance.

The aircraft will be arriving from mid morning, with the public having access to the ramp in groups of 200 to walk around the aircraft from 13:00hrs.

(Please note: ramp access in Kerry Airport on the day, as with every other airport in the country, is subject to the final approval of the airport managers, so if ramp access is not allowed on the day don't blame me)

Aircraft scheduled to attend:

Learjet 45
CASA CN235-100MP Persuader
Beech Super King Air 200
Reims Cessna FR172H Rocket
2 x Pilatus PC-9M
Aerospatiale SA365Fi Dauphin II
Aerospatiale SA316B Alouette III

To any of you that go, have a good day, make sure to take plenty of pictures for the website, unfortunately I'll be working and can't make it.

Regards,

Frank.

Jees, I nearly fell of my chair, excellent idea. Hopfully it will spread to other regional airports, Carrickfin for the Mary of Dungloe!!!, Sligo, Waterford etc. I was going to say Abbeyshrule but the crusties might think we were invaded.

Great idea indeed!! How about givin us Dubs a public show as opposed to the exclusive one they`re holding for themselves at the end of the month.

That sounds like an interesting display, watching them arrive and/or depart would be nice, esp if they arrive/leave together.

Hopefully someone will get and post some pics.

Anyone know why they are sending so many aircraft for a  display at "The Rose". I'm planning to go to Waterford next July for the Tall Ships Race, hopefully the organisers of that can pull some strings and get an air display over The Suir, whilst the ships are tied-up.

Yeah, should be a good day out. Great PR for the Corps. Aircraft should all be on the ground by 11.30 am. The only possible problem I would forsee is that the end of Hurricane Charlie is due to hit Kerry on Friday night / Saturday morning. Lets hope it doesn't ruin what could be a great day. By the way, contrary to what Rose of Tralee website is saying, there is no air display scheduled. It is a static display of aircraft only.

I`ve just arrived back from Kerry now and I have got to say the day was a fantastic success, the only problem being the long wait most people had to endure as the airport staff were really taking their time searching people.
At about 11am all the Air Corps aircraft arrived within 10 minutes of each other and gave those of us who were there a mini air display. I must thank the Dauphin pilot who hovered over me then stuck a thumbs up out the window to me before doing a 360 degree spin which was fantastic.
Once we got onto the tarmac( I was there early enough to avoid any sort of wait at security) we were given full access to every aircraft bar the PC9s and King Air so everyone there was allowed into the Casa,Dauphin, Allouette, Rheims and the absolutly fantastic Learjet(I must become a minister '<img'> ). The Air Corps pilots were also more than willing to spend 10 minutes chatting to everyone so all in all it was great pr for the Air Corps.
I`ve about 300 photos to get through so I`ll try and get them up as soon as possible.

Hey Futurepilot,

Saw you there with your camera by the fence nice and early as we arrived. Hence the thumbs up! Would be interested in seeing your pictures whenever you get them online.

Cheers

Bigwillie,

I was well impressed by that, I wish I`d had a digital camcorder though because that spin would have been great to haveon video. I`ll submit the photos tomorrow morning/afternoon because I`ve just got back from work after very little sleep last night and I`m absolutly knackered
