There is a post on the 'Wings Ireland' forum that said the Fougas could be worth c.$1 million if broken for parts  - NOT THAT I AGREE WITH THAT!!!

However, I was wondering what they are worth if sold 'as is' ?

On a related matter, I read that the Swiss are putting their remaining Mirage III fighters up for auction with a starting price of $2,400 !!!

......so where would that place the value of the Fouga's (in comparison) '<img'>

I am not disputing that this is an inflated figure that more than likely should have been said in the context of all six aircraft combined x 2 and probably referred to them when they were retired and not their current state, but you do need to compare like with like.

As regards the Mirage III, do you know of any vintage examples in private ownership to sell the parts to? Not really a market for them. Swiss law would forbid their sale to Pakistan due to likely offensive as opposed to defensive use. All aircraft and engines time expired. Their parts are useless to non existant privately flying aircraft. The $2400 "starting price" seems about right when prospective buyers have to transport them to their new locations where they also have to pay for housing and upkeep. It's a more cost effective option than paying for the disposal of useless aircraft. Some of the Fougas had significant time remaining on their engines when retired and others were only calender expired and not airframe time expired. Not a significant factor to overcome if you have money. Remember with 10 of the 23 Mirages remaining going to museums, the other 13 aircraft will go to private collectors, who will have to fund their upkeep and relocation privately. The $2400 starting price reflects two things. Firstly that with such a low starting price, only genuine collectors will remain when the bidding gets serious. And secondly, that they are of no practical use to anyone! Like with like Silver.
Fouga parts could in theory be used to keep other privately owned examples in the air.Offers to purchase were received when they were wfu. I do not think that this should happen though, they should remain intact and well looked after and if it was deemed viable to make one of them airworthy again after other needs have been looked after so be it.
The point of the thread on the other forum was not their monetary value but their historical value, something that is not reflected in the current state of affairs in Cork.

As regards their actual "as is" value, taking 216 out of the equation, the rest of the fleet remain in fairly good condition airframe wise, although the cockpits are not intact. Keep an eye on the e-bay Fouga, which is an earlier example in flying condition, built in 1960. Subtract the cost of getting them airworthy, if that is even possible now and there you go. Difficullt figure to establish that, would depend on an individual aircraft being inspected and thoriughly assesed. Unless anyone on the board has done that Silver, any answer you get will be speculative.As indeed was the $1 mil figure. Hence the word APPARANTLY!

PS why start a new thread on a closely related topic?? No point in splitting the discussion for an unquantifiable figure.

Hi all
If you want to find out how much a Fouga, or any other aircraft for that matter,get a copy of "Trade-A-Plane". Then buy your Fouga, register it in the USA/UK/France/S.Africa/Oz. Anywhere but here.
