Who will operate the side-mounted machine guns on the AB139's -

Air Corps or Army personnel ?

In the RNLAF the Air Force guards are in this position.

Maybe an idea for the AC??

Just the usual crewman, it will be an addition to the normal duties of liaising between pilot and passengers, counting down descents and observation duties.
Just means the IAC will have to get more time on the range, something which should be facilitated by having a reserve infantry battalion on location, you can do what the arty school do and pony up with the baggers for ranges.

It'd be quicker than going up there in the back of a noxious Bedford, at any rate.....Would the old 7.62 biro be used for scoring, given the high rate of fire of a minigun....Naturally,rockapes would have to be given this job.A techie would probably end up fiddling with it and if he broke it, he'd have to get a Spark to fool with the wires.It'd never work again.....i think they should just stick a MAG out the side, with a few bull-bars to stop the rocks shooting lumps off the tail....don't allow baggers next or near a heli.They're all closet anoraks and would keep getting in the way to read the reg. number of the data plate.Bagger/anorak jizz is very corrosive to aluminium....

Yes, I would love to get a spin in the heli but gimme a few thousand rounds to fire from the heli and you can forget about the data plate (not that I'd be looking for it in the first place!).

I remember when the baggers were firing A/A in gormo and someone must have forgot to tell them that they were to fire at the orange drouge not the green cessna!!! Still, would be nice to have a platoon of them out here to do the guards at w/ends!!!
Back on topic though, as was said before in the thread it will be the Techie/crewman who'll operate the weapons!! It  was supposed to be the SAR guys as they were told on the last aborted SAR course but alas we know what happened then.
