Marchetties and Dauphins
« on: August 31, 2005, 03:32:52 am »
Can someone let us know, what the current status with the Marchetties and Dauphins is? What are still operational, at the mo, when are they due to leave, etc.
I understand the the marchetties are withdrawn, but are they still in air corps possession etc.
Thanks
Buran

Hi buran,

The Marchetti's have ben withdrawn for the last year and are stored at Baldonnel.

2 of the 4 remaining Dauphin's are in store at Baldonnel and the other 2 are still flying.

Regards,

Frank.

Hi all
The Marchettis are in what is known as "flyable storage", that is, they are fit for flight and can be made ready at short notice. They are kept in a light state of preservation, i.e, canopies covered, all inlets plugged, engines preserved internally and so on.They are in as good a condition as when they were fully active. They are surely going to be sold intact, as a going concern. Some of the Dauphins are not fully intact because they were undergoing overhaul when they were grounded. This might mean that they might get broken up for spares, rather than be refitted and flown.

Thanks gttc
surely its costing a considerable amount to keep the marchettis in that condition. you would imagine that selling them on would be a priorty

Hi Buran
Probably not a whole lot, really.A bit of fuel, oil and some elbow grease.Somebody has to overcome the State prohibition on selling military aircraft for them to go to the civil market, otherwise they'll have to go to a military user.

i was talking to one of the A111 pilots at the salthill airshow about the dauphins and marchetties and he said the dauphins could possibly be sold to the U.S. coastguard?is there any chance of this?and he said the marchetties are most likely to go to belgium.

I don't see them going to Belgium. We have enough Marchetti's and they allready received new wings. An avionics upgrade is in the line.

OK OK, I'll do my bit and take one of the Marchettis off their hands, it will be a "bit more fun" than the Piper I currently fly. But they will have to do something about that drab shade of green first !!!
