Good news. Magister 216 is back in Baldonnel from Cork and will be going to the Museum.

What about a coat of polish and a new job as a gate guardian to make up for its time languishing in a shed down south?

It only went into the shed after numerous objections. Originally it was parked out in the open, with a dirty tarp over the cockpit.

RMR Magister 219 is already in the museum, but in actual fact 216 is not in too bad condition and is really is better condition than 219.

Those who were quick to comment on the care 216 recieved in Cork(myself included),should bear in mind the fate of some other time-expd aircraft that went before it!

Good to hear that 216 is in safe storage!

Time for a 'gate guardian' me thinks  'pilot_cool'


Incidentally, I firmly believe that 220 should be returned to, and displayed in, the museum.
It was the last Fouga in AC service ......and the lead aircraft of the Silver Swallows display team.

IIRC, I spotted Vampire 187 a few years ago, in storage/awaiting restoration, among the aircraft collection in Cavan & Leitrim Railway Society's compound in Dromod, Co. Leitrim.  

Now wouldn't a Vampire also make a great 'gate guardian' at Casement  'pilot_cool'

It's an unfortunate fact that long-term "gate guardian" duty is not great for an airfrme, particularly one with a lot of wood in its construction.  The ex-RAF Vampire, "198" did spend some time outside a few years back but is now kept under cover with the other preserved aircraft at Baldonnel, I think - ?

Yep,I recall reading that an ex-IAC Vampire had made it's way to France .........I think it was just given to them, i.e. no swap.
It's mentioned in 'Wing's Over Ireland', IIRC.

Transported out on a French AF Transall in about 1975/6, I think.  That suggests some sort of official arrangement - maybe in exchange for the instructional Magister airframe acquired by the Air Corps?
