There was never an F-111 at Salthill, only a B-1, Tomcat or Tornado came close.

You mean a few in flight refuelling demos especially over their holding area before they were due to arrive on display line! No never had an f111 Aardvark but the B1 makes up for that! Personally would love to see an F117 or B2!

Here is what salthill has had over the years though!!!

Enjoy!

Hi All,
I'd like to correct you on the F-111 issue, Clan was right, 2 F-111s did take part in the Salthill Airshow in 1995. Set off every car alarm down along the prom!

USAF F-111's ??

I thought the USAF had withdrawn F-111's from service well before 1995?
.......and that the RAAF were/are the only air force who still use them ?

Hi all
My vote goes to the Antonov-26 of the former East German AF. I marshalled it to it's parking spot at one of the Don Airshows and recieved a bottle of Grolsch from the crew for my pains.Thirsty work, that marshalling! They also gave me a very detailed tour of the aircraft. It had a crew of 1 West German and about six East Germans.Nice bunch and delighted to be in the "new" Luftwaffe.

There was also a German ECM Hansa Jet (at the same show?) which was a very welcome sight.  For the scale of the various events held at Baldonnel, and given our location relative to the rest of Europe, the shows there have succeeded in attracting some very nice visitors.

The US Air Force withdrew the F-111s from Lakenheath in 1992, what I meant was that they LEFT from Lakenheath. I can only go on what the commentator said. Two F-111s displayed at what was known as the 'Salthill Harp Lager Festival' in 1995. QED.

Just thought, what about the French Air Force Mirage jet that flew over connemara a few years ago. It is still talked about in the Inagh lodge with great distain. By a number of very wet fishermen, who jumped into the lake with fright.

Hi all
Many moons ago(1984?), a VFW-Fokker 614 came to the Don, bearing the then President of West Germany. The pilot was a former Starfighter pilot, who took off and made a very, very steep turn past the tower as he left.I'd say the people on board were quite green about the gills after that.
Re:F111s. Didn't one make an appearance at Fairyhouse or one of those non-airfield airshows?
