MPA in the CASA's type designation is put there by the manufacturer and doesn't necessarily mean Maritime Patrol Aircraft, it could stand for Maritime Patrol - Armed.

The Irish CASA's are designated CASA CN-235-100MP, Persuader is the manufacturer's name that I don't think the Air Corps have adopted.

Just some further useless info!! The Cn-235 MPA are the ones built by Airtech in Indonesia and the MP by CASA , Spain!!!
I do recall ours being called MPA's in the begining. I'll get to the bottom of this tmorrow and let yis know.
BTW: Ours have no underwing hardpoints or the like. So as was said before , unless its a raft/flare or Army Ranger, its not supposed to fall from an IAC casa! Does the photographers camera count??

CN-235 MP PERSUADER
The aircraft is equipped with a FLIR Systems FLIR-2000HP forward looking infrared night vision system. The FLIR pod is mounted under the nose of the aircraft. Northrop Grumman (Litton) supplied the AN/ALR-86(V) electronic support measures and the APS-504(V)5 radar.

CN-235 MPA
There are three hardpoints under each wing that can carry Harpoon anti-ship missiles. The Indonesian maritime patrol version can be fitted with two Mark 46 torpedoes or Exocet M-39 air-launch anti-ship missiles

The Air Corps Casas are, without question, of Spanish manufacture. The engineers went to Spain to see them being built and fitted out.All dealings concerning the Casa have been thru the manufacturer in Seville and no-one else.
