1/48 Vampire trainer kit
« on: March 13, 2006, 07:09:47 pm »
For anyone that may be interested, an on-line store in the USA is selling the Classic Airframes Vampire T.11 trainer kit at $15.99 each (down from $50).  Even with postage to Ireland, that looks like a good price.  Not sure how many are left, as the Vampire T.55 kit which was also shown on the site last night is now gone (I ordered one).

The URL is http://e-hobbyland.com/clai.html

No, but some of the MaxDecal sheets should be able to provide the main markings needed.

I've got one from Santie  'applause'  It looks great for the first sight, but!
You need to order:
a/ new main wheels from Aeroclub, the ones in the box are for Australian Vampires only
b/ new vacform canopy, Aeroclub again, too thick  in C.A. box
c/ new ejection seats Martin baker M.B.3 I try to make a master and then few resin copies, so if you interested...but it can take a while...

There are some other areas of interest, ie. main gear bays, which are toooo shallow, missing engine nozlle to name a couple. So far this kit is on 4th-5th place on my to do list. After Lysander, which gets his coat right now, Brisfit, Hurricane Mk.IIc and perhaps SE5a...

2 Fouga:
Motto:Non multi sed multa - 'Not many but much'
Badge: A stork volant. The stork in the badge relates to the French 'Escadrille des Cygelines' with whom the original pilots of No 312 had flown prior to coming to the UK.

No 312 Squadron was formed at Duxford on 29 August 1940 with Czechoslovak personnel as a fighter unit. Equipped with Hurricanes, it was sent to Speke to defend Merseyside, coming south in May 1941 for offensive operations until August. Defensive duties occupied the squadron until May 1942, when it began escort missions from south-west England. From June to September 1943 it was based on the Orkneys before joining Second TAF's operations in preparation for the invasion of France. It converted to a fighter-bomber role in April 1944 and supported the landings in Normandy remaining in the UK after Second TAF moved to France. In July 1944 the squadron moved to East Anglia and undertook long-range escort duties for the rest of the war. In August 1945, No.312 flew home to Czechoslovakia, where it was disbanded as an RAF unit on 15 February 1946.

It's not from my head, though

Well, it is not so simple...
Yes I am coming from this country allright, but I've never regarded myself to be Czech, if we are talking nationalitywise. Don't mistake it with state citizenship.
And after 6years on Paddy's soil..... '<img'>

312 Sqn. moved to Valley on 3 March 1941 with a detachment at Penrhos (Wales). On 10 April two Hurricanes intercepted a Ju88 which took place approx 30/35 miles SW of Bardsey which would take it close to Wicklow. The Ju88 was shot down and one of the Hurricanes also crashed into the sea. Perhaps a good modelling subject?

Very interesting. There are some very good books written about Czech WWII pilots in the U.K. and I believe in some of them may be names of pilots and description of this incident as well...
Incidentally, I've just got modelling mag from "overthere" and there is profile of Hurricane Mk.I, from 312 Sqn, DUoP, P2575, flown by D. E. Gillam, who has a share on Ju 88A-1 over Liverpool on 8.10.1940 and Josef Frantisek's Mk.I RFoR of 303 Sqn.
I know little bit out, but it seems to  me like a nice coincident '<img'>
