I see the new Mach 1 website is up and running, very impressive! Is that your handy work Frank?

They mention that 'Mach1 2006 presents the biggest ever airshow to be staged in Ireland'.  That's a very big claim to be making considering some of the shows we have seen in the Don and Salthill. Anybody know anything about other possible acts?

I think RAF Valleys 208 sqn's display Hawk is lined up but havnt seen it on the site. At least the Breitling Jet team with their L-39's will create a bit of noise!!

OOOPPPSS!!! Scrap last!!! My mistake it is on the site now!!
Must keep up to date with these things though the Hawk on the site is actually painted in the 4FTS anniversary markings not the 208sqn display paint, but I think their both the dispalys hwks, for 208sqn, just pot luck which one you get I suppose!!

Could somebody suggest to the PC-9 pilots that they do a few fast fly pasts at future airshows to show people what the aircraft are capable of !

The PC-9's jocks did a great display at Bray last year, but I found it dissappointing that they didn't do a fast fly past at the end of their display.
Such a flypast would make a great impact on the crowd - I'm sure many 'non-aviation' people at the show left thinking  'ah sure, the air corps have a few slow planes'   '<img'>

You have to rememeber that at Bray they are constrained by Bray Head, with the aircraft having to kink in towards the display line otherwise they would be too far away from the crowd, like the Lear was last year. Also, it would be quite dangerous for the Pc-9's to go flat out in formation, so maybe a solo one could do it if he can pick up enough speed along the display line. Salthill is a different matter with plenty of space, so maybe there??
Obviously I've seen PC-9's (Single ones that is!) flat out, here at the Don and they are quite fast , but you have to remember we havnt had them all that long relativly speaking, so give them time. Plus, its not up to the pilots how fast or what sort of maneuvers thay perform, it has to be approved from above, the GOC etc that is , not God, ahem!!  'pilot_lips_are_sealed'

so display auth is along the lines of the RAF where the Goc/base commander has to accept the display and make sure all is above board and safe?

As far as I know thats the case or at least it was last year anyhow. I know the fly-by's for the easter parade were reviewed over and over again her on base by senior officers before the actual parade. It goes without saying that safety is paramount at these events!! If you look at events in the U.K they are scrutinised even as they happen and if the safety guy on the ground aint happy he/she informs ATC to tell the act to abort there and then. Like the case of the Luftwaffe Mig-29 at Biggen Hill (I think??) a few years ago that pulled out of a loop very low (under complete control I might add!) in order to do a low run but was ordered to land and got his hand slapped (I'd say quite severely!!).
