Easter Rising Parade & Flypast information

Hi Guys,

As we all probably know at this stage there will be a military parade & flypast in Dublin, kick off time is at 11.45am, more info below (taken from this page)

Does anyone know when the first Air Corps aircraft fly past and how many waves of aircraft are involved? The last I heard is that 4 waves will be flying, each wave timed to coincide with different sections of the parade (in other words not all aircraft will flypast at the same time).

Also, does anyone know the composition of the waves, as we've read on another post the Alouettes & Cessna's will be flying together, what about the other aircraft?

Hey Frank, ive had formations flying over my house all morning - what a sight!! - the main formation flying over was a 6 ship formation of the GIV up front with the Lear 45 behind it with 2 PC9's on each wing of the lear in a V shape with a single PC9 trailing(observing), i got some photos but im still on film so...., the other formation was off to the west and seemed to comprise of the 2-3 cessnas with 2 PC9's off their wings with 2 EC135 following behind but i could be wrong. The sight of the first formation gave me goose bumps, it was like something you would see at RIAT!... it was like the friday before AS 2000 great stuff!, hope this goes on all week ill get my digi cam charged.

I just wonder  ...Navy, Aer Corps, UN Veterans, Gardai..., have I lived in dark for all those years? I always thought it's Air Corps, or Aer Chor, but "they" know best don't they?

I would say they spelt "Aer Corps" incorrectly, just because it is from a government department does not mean the spelling is right.

A civil servant from a department other than the DOD probably wouldn't have a clue as to the proper title of the Air Corps, hence the all too common spelling mistake.

BTW, the first wave of aircraft goes past O'Connell Street @ 12.30.

"Aer Corps" always annoyed the hell out of me too.

It's like spelling someone's name wrong - it's a sign of either laziness or carelessness.

(Maybe this means I'm not neurotic, or maybe you are too!)

i believe each squadron will overfly a ground element separately before joining up based on speed (172's+heli's) for 2 final passes. the 2 big formations were out today looking well. lets hope the weather doesn't scupper the whole thing!

You are correct Head, the second formation flying today comprised 3x172 2xAIII and 2xEC135. It was great to see both formations in the air, the 172 formation was to the south of the airfield as the GIV formation flew along the main runway from the West. Wonder what the other 2 formations Frank mentioned will be? Both Casa's maybe alone for one but what about the other?

The formations you saw today are probably fro the mass flypast at the end of the parade, I think the formations will be broken up into smaller groups as they flypast initially.

Hi all
Can you just imagine the noise of Alouettes and Cessnas together? The Continentals sawing away and the demented alarm-bells of the Alouettes, all being funnelled along the boulevard.They'll have a ground speed of about 80kts, so they'll be the slowest and noisiest.The DoD will be swamped with deafness claims...!! '>

Have to say, the Helis's and Cessna's sound well together and dont forget there will be 2 135's in that formation also!!
The "fast" formation consists of GIV. Lear,Beech in line astern repectivly with 5 pc9's behind in a V or box formation depending what they decide on the day. The 5th pc-9 was used a camera ship during practice but did take part in the initial flypas so dont know if it'll be thare on the day??
Of course these are just the large formations, there will be smaller ones throughtout the arade as Frank ha already mentioned.

Badger is correct.  Here's the running order;

1.  6xPC9's
2.  3xCessnas
3.  4xAlouettes
4.  GIV/LR45/Beech
5.  2xEC135's
6.  2xCASA

These go with each ground formation.

Then to finish off;

7.  Formation of Cessnas/AIII's/EC135's
8.  Formation of GIV/LR45/Beech/4xPC9's
9.  Formation of 2xCASA/2xPC9's

Spacing will be about 5 minutes between flypasts.

Lets hope the weather, the aircraft and the crowd behaves themselves

WOW!

Having been one of the 'not so sure a military parade was the right thing to do' camp, I have to say, I'm eating my words.

Well done to all Air Corps personnel involved! Was watching on TV and had the pleasure of the initial PC-9 flight go right over my back garden, and later the Gulf/Lear/Beech, the the solo Casa, followed by then the Casa/PC-9 towards the end as well as the MATS/PC9 flight.

Fantastic work by all (I bet the ATC guys were kept busy too!)

Yeah, nice. Pity about the wind but you cant have everything. The fast pass managed to put the shadows right up the street! Well done to all. Love the Cadet School being out of step!

it was amazing!brilliant!i had to climb up onto the statue at the very end of the street after the parade pulled up that side street to the left to get a look at anything!i got some pics!when i get back home to letterkenny this evening il post some!the formations were alot lower than i thought they would be!it would of being brilliant if all the aircraft involved did a mass flyover at the end!but still a brilliant dayi even got a piccie of mary mac! .im sitting in a wee internet cafe now on oconnell street!it seems so quiet after that!

The Shadows falling on O Connell st as the trucks drove past the reviewing stand was very Impressive.
