PC-9 team - which air show on Sept. 2nd & 3rd
« on: August 02, 2006, 11:55:28 pm »
Hi Guys,

Can any of you confirm for me which air show the Air Corps PC-9 team will be displaying at on the weekend of September 2nd & 3rd, the Belgian Defence Days at Beauvechain or the Portrush Air Show in Northern Ireland?

Aparently they are confirmed for both shows so which one is correct?

Thanks in advance,

Frank.

That's what I was thinking as well, but who would defend our air space, then?

Yes, we have 8 aircraft, and 3 per venue can be done, the problem is both air shows are advertising a formation display, I think it's highly unlikely the Air Corps will train up two teams of pilots, that's why I was asking which air show will they be displaying at.

Of course as always I'm open to correction on this.

Hi all,
Put on your thinking cap for a second, Badger, will you? it's far easier to detail three pilots, three aircraft (not ships...ships are for the sea), a support aircraft, it's pilots, the technicians and other servicing staff, the ATC people at home, etc for two shows over two days rather than attempt to use three-quarters of the fleet, and correspondingly more people and services, not accounting for maintenance, unservicability, etc.Be thankful for what you get.

Settle down GTTC, tongue firmly in cheek when i posted that!
PS- formation sizes are widely referred to as 2 ship 3 ship etc. 'pilot_smiley'

I may have missed a post somewhere, so if I have, sorry, but does the "team" have an offical name at the moment?? Has anyone been brave enough to resurect the "swallows" title or are they holding that out for a jet formation?

Hi, Badger
Try to understand the logistical effort involved in sending even one aircraft to a foreign (Portrush included) display and you'll grasp why countries send small quantities of aircraft at a time.....calling them "ship" is an Americanism that jars with me.....I have heard, from within, that the PC-9 team will be called the Silver Swallows, depending on upstairs approval.

Thats funny. I thought they were grey with a possible respray to black because of complaints, even amoungest the Air Corps, of aircraft visibility. Still I supose if you mix black and grey you do get........No sorry its still black 'pilot_wink'
