MATS Learjet
« on: October 17, 2003, 11:31:12 pm »
I believe that the contract has been formally signed for the new MATS Learjet, and it is due to be delivered in December.

Any more info re livery, etc ?

Even though this new jet will be of little benefit to Air Corps operations perhaps, at the very least, it could bear the lettering "IRISH AIR CORPS - AER CHOR na h-EIREANN" as part of it's livery (like the old MATS HS 125-700 jet).

It would be good PR for the Corps, seeing as this jet will be spending most of it's time abroad (in 2004 especially!).

Your spot on Silver! The livery will be very like that of the old HS! White, with green and orange stripes on the side and I think the gold harp on the tail, a la GIV !!

And an obvious liar to boot.

Tell me, how can you have been a Fouga & GIV pilot? You describe yourself as a female, yet there have been no female Fouga or GIV pilots.

So you're either lying about being female, or lying about being an AC pilot, or lying about both.

Either way, you're full of shit.
D'oh!

Don't see how a small bizjet whizzing around quiet airbases or VIP sections of airbases delivering civil servants and politicans is of much PR benefit to the AC.

It would be 'flying the flag' so to speak, for the AC - especially if their name is on each side.
It would also possibly attend a few airshows abroad each year, and ocassionally it would be seen on tv.

As the tesco ad says "Every little helps !"

Silver is right. Flying the fly is very important and brings the IAC to many places that haven't even heard of our great little country.

An update on the Learjet, coutesy of Air Corps Wings - The Internal Air Corps Newsletter, Issue 1, October 2003, (and p.diddy.cool !) :

"This aircraft is an 8-seater aircraft, with 2 'Club 4' type seat arrangements. It comfortably reaches 1500nm range.
The overall cost, including spare parts, ground support equipment, air ambulance kit and technical and pilot training was just over €10 million.
The majority of the aircraft was built in the Bombardier's facility in Belfast. It is currently on final completion in Tuscon, Arizona. It is accepted that final acceptance will commence the week beginning the 8th December 2003, with the aircraft due to arrive in Baldonnel, fully operational by the 15th December 2003.
The aircraft will be white in colour with an orange and green stripe running down the fueslage.
The aircraft was purchased primarily for MATS operations and with Ireland taking the EU presidency in January '04, ..can expect a very busy and demanding introduction to service".
