Hi guys,

when I went through, IAC goodies topic, and saw few last posts in there, I thought, it might be worth it to set up separate tread dealing with models -and all things around- of IAC airplanes...

I start it with list of models in my collection, all of them are plastic kits in 1:48 scale:

Built
Hawker Hurricane Mk IIc, Hasegawa/Revell
Westland Lysander Mk III - converted to Mk II, Gavia
Miles Magister M14A, Special Hobby
Fairey Battle TT Mk.I, Classic Airframes
Spitfire Tr Mk.IX, Hasegawa/Brigade Models conversion
Seafire Mk.III, Airfix/Tamiya kit bash

On the shelf
Bristol F2B Fighter, Roden
R.A.F. SE 5a, Roden
SA 365N Dauphin II, Trumpeter
D.H. Vampire T11/T22, Classic Airframes
Lockheed Hudson Mk I, Classic Airframes

Hey FiSe:
I have hte Italeri Lysander  (and two Frog ones) in 1/48. I wanted to convert it to a Mk 2 as well. How or where did you get the correct engine for it??

I once located a guy in Canada who made resin engines and a full conversion kit for the Mk2 Lysander....he hadn't made them for awhile and went to check if he had some lying around.I got word a little after that he'd hada heart-attack and died.

I scratch built my own, I used original engine body from the kit, modified it, made new cylinders and exhaust pipes and stuck on few more details. Nothing too sophisticated, or 100%accurate, but it looks OK - like the original one.  '<img'>

I have to say, that this decision was made after hours of fruitless searching for some manufacturer, who'd make some resin/metal/whatever replacement.
I almost gave up scratchbuilding once, but damage I caused to the original kit parts and total lack of anything reminding this Perseus powerplant on the market, pushed me to finish this off at the end.

I am slowly getting into the scratch-building aspect of this hobby. I guess you have to start somewhere!!

About the engine, I used only center section from the kit. I made new front part /gearbox?, new valves and few other bits... But try this links, it should give you some idea of what needs to be done:
http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/Duxford/Bristol.htm
http://www.ysfbooks.com/CATALOGUE/AVIATION/Aero_engine_150.jpg

I thought I took some pics of my engine before painting, but can't find them.

Next thing is to remove those fairings on engine cowling and make this -I think - 1mm shorter, there are some pannels added on the belly of the Lysander and some changes in the observer's canopy...
Description should be on above mentioned Wicklow Scale Modelling Club webpage.
I used 4+publication on Lysander extensively during building, it cost me a tenner and is worth it

As we're on the topic of Air Corps in scale, the Max48001 decal sheet featuring the Lysander, Seafire III, Hurricane IIc, Gladiator, Chipmunk, Bristol F2B and others will be rereleased with colour instructions in the coming weeks. This is a limited reissue.

I'm considering a completely new decal sheet featuring IAC subjects to include markings for aircraft that have only recently been released in model form such as the Avro Anson mk1 in 1/48, Kingair in 1/72, Miles Magister in 1/48, EC-135 in 1/72 and 1/32, Dauphin in 1/48.

I'd be interested to have your views on what subjects are needed.

Best regards,

Joe

...and Squirrel /Heller should be out just about now/ and EC135, it's not out yet, but - hopefuly - it will be, I believe. All in 1:48

Joe ,
Absolutely delighted to hear of the plans for re-release and of new decals too.Have been waiting for ages for decals for the Dauphin in 1/48 (built the kit about 2 years ago) and decals for the Squirrel kit which I got in 1/48 scale only this week.Schemes for the Warrior in 1/48 would also be very welcome!! Have also built a (much modifie) Learjet and the cheatlines are a real pain to do without decals.A full re-spray would happen if decals to suit were available!!

Delighted to hear this Joe!!
If at all possible, is there any chance you could re-release the wing stripes in 1/72 - 1/48 again please? This are essential for the Hurricanes etc.
Also, how about including hte Fouga Magister markings on a new sheet.
I agree too that markings for the Revell 1/32 EC-135 would be good and it's great to hear you'll be doing 1/48 markings for the Dauphin.
Also, markings for the PC-9 in 1/72 would be cool.

In new issue of Tamyia Model Magazine Int. is building article on new Avro Anson in 1:48 /Classic Airframes/. There are some nice profiles in there as well, including IAC No.20. So if anybody's interested in building that bird, this issue /133, yellow/ might come handy...
