excellent!but should they not be able to fly through rough weather anyway?they machines have been ordered for the japanese coastguard aswell for SAR and they the pacific isnt exactly as calm as a swimming pool!

They are inbound now & should arrive EIME around noon. They did now stop at Waterford.

Pilatus,

The wind was blowing against them which effectively reduced the range of the helicopters and as well as that even though they are now trained to fly the helicopters the Air Corps pilots are probably not fully up to speed on all the systems & capabilities of the aircraft.

It takes time to build up the capability, it doesn't just happen when the heli's get delivered.

According to an irish BB one heli was involved in an "incident" enroute, scary by the sounds of things 'yikes'

Apparently they lost control and recovered at low alt...its on the flyinginireland forum...

The two AW139's arrived in Baldonnel about half an hour ago. They are still on the ramp if ye want to sneak a peaqk from the local viewing points before they are put away for the night.

I doubt it, they are only helis. Its not as if they circumnavigated the globe! Cue marching band in time with taxiing GIV.

there was a rumpous made when the EC135's arrived.there will probably be a few pics in the papers but i was hoping it would be on RTE news!

I believe the Minister for Defience was to meet and greet on the 21st. Dont know what is happening now after the delay.
Interesting to see on IMO that the machines landed at the Curragh, anybody know why?
Could be be a sign to the Army of increased co op in the future? Id like to think so.

Will the DOD now exercis the options for a further 2 AW139, or upgrade to AW149?

As I seem to remember that the options expire December 2006, so decisions will need to be made shortly.

The Curragh is Ranger HQ & the AW.139's are what they have been waiting for, so the stop off @ the Curragh Camp may have been connected.

Dublin Spotter,
The options are being held over Agusta's heads to ensure cooperation on the current four machines. The uptake of the options is really anybodys guess but I think will be as much down to the Army as the Air Corps.
With regard to the AW149 it is not that simple. The Air Corps could augment an existing type with further numbers without going to tender however to purchase a new type would require a completely new tender competition.
Also the Air Corps are trying to rationalise types. That would again be an increase in types.
Finaly why would you like to see the AW149? Is there something that you feel the new €60mil fleet cannot do? If so why buy them in the first place!

The Irish independent has an article saying an investigation is underway into an incident that happened while enroute to Ireland.The end result requireing an emergency landing!!!
