Irish Air Corps losses
« on: November 26, 2006, 09:12:36 pm »
Hi,

Can anyone help with identifying the pilots involved and circumstances leading to these Irish Air Corps incidents.

Hawker Hind
No69 lost in June 1940
No70 lost in July 1940
No71 lost in September 1940

Hawker Hector
No87 lost July 1941
No81 collision with No83 September 1941
No83 collision with No81 september 1941
No85 lost in August 1942

I have different accounts of the 81/83 collison. One source states mid-air while another states ground collision.

Any help with these losses would be greatly received.

Regards,

Alex

Hi,

I'm writing a book on the Hawker Hart family. I have the basic info on the IAC Hinds and Hectors but wanted to try and find out some details on the cause of the losses. Was it engine failure, weather conditions, landing/take off problem, etc,.

The book will be published by Mushroom Model Publications, possibly late next year. My previous books have been about the Gladiator and Bulldog/Gauntlet. Due for release hopefully next month will be one on the Hawker Fury/Nimrod.

I'm also looking for 2-3 suitable photos of IAC Hinds and Hectors.

Hey Badger, what do you mean a good old fashioned witch hunt? I'm sure the pilots will get in serious trouble if they are found to be in any way responsible for the destruction of these historic aircraft.
That's if they're still serving officers in the Air Corps!
(btw, that was a joke as well!)
Don't take it so serious Alex! Donners and exers are a bunch of pi55 takers!
Personally, Badger, I thought your remark about a witchhunt was very funny!
